Have you ever had one of those days you feel in a funk, you don’t feel motivated, or feel like a failure? What do you do on those days? For me, I practice affirmations.
What are Affirmations?
Affirmations are positive sentences you say to yourself that encourage and motivate you when you have negative thoughts about yourself or a situation. Affirmations aim at your unconscious to get your brain and mind to start believing those positive things.
Affirmations weren’t a part of my routine until about 2 years ago, and ever since I added it into my routine, I can say that it has truly transformed the way I think about myself. Before now, I would allow the negative thoughts linger for too long, causing me to resent myself or feel stagnant in life. The beauty about practicing affirmations for me is that the more I practiced them, the more I believed them, and eventually those negative thoughts and situations began changing for the better.
Affirmations don’t have to be complicated or fancy. You can make them as specific to any situation as you want or as generic as you want. The goal is just to take a negative thought and write the opposite, and that will be your affirmation. For example, if a negative thought you often battle with is “I am not worthy”, a positive affirmation I would write for that is “I am worthy and deserving of every good thing that comes my way.”
Here are 10 Affirmations I use to combat negative thoughts:
- I have unlimited potential
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
- I attract good things in life
- I am proud of myself for getting this far
- I create change in any room I enter
- I am excited about the person I am becoming
- I am deserving of love
- I am deserving of good things in life
- I am in control of how I spend my time
- Every part of me is beautiful
